zach harnden off to western mustangs camp
July 5th, 2013
Zach Harnden is going to Washington, to attend the Capitals Development Camp.
“I am really excited and I'm sure it will be a great experience,” said Harnden in a release. “I'm not sure what to expect but it is a great way to get some exposure for when I am done school if I do want to continue playing hockey.”
It'll be the third development camp for the 23-year-old Thunder Bay native - having attended the San Jose Sharks’ camp in 2009 and the Los Angeles Kings' camp the following year. The ex Peterborough Pete and Kingston Frontenac enrolled at Western in 2011 after a five-year OHL career (four with the Petes, one with Kingston) where he scored 82 goals and 94 assists in 331 regular-season and playoff games.
Harnden's stint with the Kings was good enough to earn him a contract with the Manchester Monarchs, the Knights AHL affiliate, but he opted for Western after playing 6 games.
But for now Harnden's his future lies with the Mustangs.
They won 16 in a row under interim coach Pat Powers, in the regular season, but were unable to get past Waterloo at the nationals.
The Mustangs, with Clarke Singer back behind the bench, will get a chance to make up for it when the season begins October 11, at home to the Concordia Stingers.
