parris austin powers majors to victor
May 25th, 2013
Parris Austin went 4 for 5 as the London Majors cruised to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Hamilton Cardinals at Labatt Park Friday evening.
Austin led things off with the first run of the ball game in the first inning, with Hamilton tying the game in the top of the third. Austin would put the Majors ahead once again in the bottom of the third as the Majors never looked back.
Jordan Townshend was credited with the win, his first of the season, striking out 9 batters, while giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in 7 innings of work. Matt Martinow of Hamilton picked up the loss, striking out 5 while giving up 6 runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Corey Hammond came on in relief for the Majors, and was credited with the save, pleasing Majors' head coach Roop Chanderdat.
Paul Young, Cleveland Brownlee and Jon Celestino picked up the other runs for the Majors who have now won four straight.
The Majors have a quick layoff before facing off against the Barrie Baycats in a double header Sunday afternoon. Mike DeLong and Brett Sabourin are expected to start those games.
First pitch at Labatt Park is at 1:05pm with the second game at 4:00pm.
