liam herbst recovery back on track
Aug 6th, 2013
The London Knights believe 2012 first round selection Liam Herbst could be at training camp, as rehabilitation from his knee and hip surgeries are going as per plan.
The Etobicoke native was shut down by the Knights for the 2012/13 season but is expected to return for the upcoming season. Initially, he was billed to return this December, but the Knights' may get a stroke of luck moving forward.
"I'm excited by the news," says GM Mark Hunter who drafted Herbst 22nd overall in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. "He's feeling good. There's no problem with his knees and he should be ready for camp."
But there's a sense of caution amongst the Knights' top brass.
"If he comes into training camp wanting a little more time, that's going to be up to him and his doctor," added Hunter. "We're both cautious and excited because he's making progression."
Liam Herbst will not be the guy backstopping the Knights into the 2014 Memorial Cup. The Hunter's have publicly declared their faith in incumbents Anthony Stolarz and Jake Patterson but Herbst would give the franchise some much needed depth in goal.
He stayed home in Toronto for his rehabilitation, but Herbst wants to do just one thing: suit up one day for the two-time defending OHL champions.
"We want no setbacks," Hunter remarked.
He'll get his chance. Someday, perhaps.
