knights win big at the nhl draft
July 2nd, 2013
A team which promised so much, delivered.
The London Knights had three players taken in the top 20 of the 2013 NHL Draft, held last Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Bo Horvat, Max Domi and Nikita Zadorov were all first round selections. Remi Elie, Kyle Platzer and Miles Liberati were the others drafted.
Horvat was the first to be taken - snagged 9th overall by the Vancouver Canucks after Vancouver traded goalie Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils for the No. 9 pick. The Canucks hope the moves bring to an end the goalie saga between Schneider and Roberto Luongo.
Max Domi didn't have to wait much longer to hear hs name called. He was taken 12th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes, the third time in succession the franchise has drafted the son of a former NHL-er in the first round.
Hard hitting Russian defenceman Nikita Zadorov completed the trio when the Buffalo Sabres drafted him 16th overall.
With the 25th pick of the first round the Montreal Canadiens took winger Michael McCarron, who's OHL rights are owned by the Knights. He was playing in the United States development program and committed to Western Michigan for next season.
That London is hosting the Memorial Cup next season, might be the final push that McCarron needs to sign with the reigning OHL champions. A native of Macomb, Michigan, McCarron could follow in the footsteps of former Knights captain Jarred Tinordi, who was drafted by Montreal before signing for London in 2010.
