Fans gather to send off the london knights
May 15th, 2013
Hundreds of fans gathered in the parking lot of the old Electro Motive building to give the London Knights a big send off to the Memorial Cup in Saskatoon.
The Knights arrived shortly after 2 o'clock and were greeted by scores of autograph seekers and well wishers.
“I've been a fan for 43 years so I got to keep it up, keep it going," said Knights' fan Ann Ewing. “They missed it [The Memorial Cup] by one goal last year. They've got to bring it home this year!”
"I wouldn't miss this for the world," she added.
Ewing was also in attendance when Bo Horvat scored an improbable game winner with 0.1 second remaining to send the London Knights to Saskatoon.
"It was so emotional," she added. "I was up and down, on the edge of my seat; praying that it was a goal. And it was. It was great."
"Fantastic."
“It's mid-week and people are working and stuff but they took the time out to come here," chimed a jovial Knights' head coach Dale Hunter, who was pleased with the turnout. "The players really appreciate it. It is amazing how many London Knight fans are in this city and it's awesome."
The Knights' were sent off in style with a motorcade, accompanied by bells, whistles and even a police escort. The team's plane departed shortly after 3 o'clock.
The boys in green and gold get their 2013 Memorial Cup underway Friday evening, taking on the host Saskatoon Blades in the opener.
