dave bolland brings lord stanley to london
August 1st, 2013
Lord Stanley's trophy was in the Forest City yet again.
Dave Bolland, who scored the Cup-winning goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 6 of the final last month in Boston, made a stop in London before heading off to Toronto to continue his day with the Cup.
He spent time at the London Children's Hospital, Empower Conditioning on Piccadilly St. (his local gym) and the Highland Country Club.
"I played my junior hockey here, played most of my teen years here too," said Bolland. "It was fun. It's always good to get back and bring the Cup back to London."
The Mimico, Ontario native dressed for the London Knights between 2002 and 2006, and was a part of the fabled 2005 London Knights roster, that dominated the junior hockey stage.
Now a two time cup winner, there's hope from Leafs Nation that Bolland's good fortune carries over to the Maple Leafs.
"Here's hoping you win us a cup soon," was the what nearly everyone gathered at Empower Conditioning told Bolland.
Bolland says he wanted to make sure he included London this time around. Like a number of members from the 2005 Knights, he frequents the city often, having recently bought a house in Wortley Village.
“I love it. I'm not too far from Toronto if I have to get there and London's a nice place just to get away." he smiled. "It's a quiet area too, I love it."
“London will always be a special place for me."
How special?
There's every chance that Bolland's first game for the Maple Leafs will be at the Budweiser Gardens on September 15 - the same ice surface where he racked up 299 points in 254 regular season games in Green and Gold.
A day hasn't gone by where Bolland isn't asked about his famous Cup winner with 58.2 seconds left in the third period that beat the Bruins.
"That'll always be a fun moment in my life.”
